I was born in Taipei, Taiwan. My family and I moved to the United States when I was eight years old. My father was an architect in Taiwan, which may be why I have such a strong interest in Asian architecture.
I discovered clay almost by accident. I decided to take a ceramics class while pursuing a degree in biology at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. The challenge of learning how to throw on a wheel intrigued me. After that, I was hooked. I ended up graduating with a degree in Elementary Education and Studio Art.
After teaching elementary school for 8 years, I finally have an opportunity to be a full-time studio potter. While I miss being around children all day, I am thoroughly enjoying the opportunity to spend most of my time working in my studio.
Artist Statement
My work reflects both my love for the beauty of Asian
architecture and my fascination with surface decoration.
I love the idea of an elegant form with an ornately
decorated surface.
My surface decorations are inspired by patterns, textures,
and carvings from many different cultures. I find that
successfully integrating diverse decorative elements is
both challenging and satisfying.
